Keeping the Cold Chain Unbroken

Open to everyone until Thursday, October 29

To keep it, print it while it is open.

Perishable food like milk, meat and yoghurt has to stay cold at every step, from the delivery lorry to your fridge at home. Each time it warms up, bacteria start multiplying again, so the food spoils faster and can become unsafe to eat.

In the picture

  1. Refrigerated lorry: food stays chilled all the way from the warehouse
  2. Chilled display: the shop keeps perishables cold until you buy them
  3. Insulated cool bag: keeps food cold on the journey home
  4. Home fridge: raw meat covered on the lowest shelf, at 5 °C or colder

Examples

  • Picking up the yoghurt and meat at the very end of a shopping trip and going straight home
  • Not leaving a bag of chilled shopping in a warm car while you run other errands

    • Covered, on the lowest shelf
    • On the top shelf
  3. What happens each time chilled food like milk or meat warms up between the shop and your fridge?

    • Nothing, as long as it is chilled again afterwards
