Why this app exists

Where it came from

Mon Prof Augmenté is made by a father of a boy born in 2017, a web developer since 1996 and a mobile developer since 2008, whose long-standing ambition has been to finish his career as a teacher.

The app was first made for one child, which explains something you may notice: the default library is already well stocked around age eight, because that is how old the first user was.

The principle

Aware of the pressures of our time — screens, artificial intelligence — the idea is to take what these technologies are good for without becoming dependent on them, in particular by letting concepts be absorbed visually.

Concepts are consistently easier to grasp that way, as the picture superiority effect and research in education science both show: given the same material, what is seen is remembered better than what is read.

On AI, plainly

The app uses AI to produce teaching illustrations. That is a deliberate choice, and one worth explaining rather than hiding.

The problem is not AI itself: it is unsupervised AI. A child who asks a general-purpose assistant a question gets a plausible answer, sometimes a wrong one, that nobody has checked. Here the visuals are produced in advance, reviewed, tied to a curriculum topic, and an adult — teacher or parent — decides what gets passed on.

That is the difference between using AI’s teaching strengths and leaving a child alone with a chatbot.

What we do not do

No advertising to children. No data resale. No ranking children against each other. No guilt-trip notifications. No investor to repay, which is what makes it possible to keep the free tier genuinely usable instead of turning it into a corridor towards a payment.
