Avenue in Perspective

A straight avenue is shown with its edges angling toward a single distant point. Identical trees repeat along the side, each one smaller as it gets farther away.

In the picture

  1. The horizontal boundary between sky and distant ground: it sets eye level.
  2. A road edge that angles inward toward the distance: parallel edges appear to meet.
  3. The point where the road edges meet: the spot where receding parallel lines seem to converge.
  4. A tree in a repeating row: nearer trees are taller, farther trees are shorter.

Examples

  • A road lined with lampposts that seem to shrink toward the horizon.
  • Train tracks that appear to meet in the distance.
