Orienteering is a sport where you use a map to find marked points in order. You can do it alone or with a team, walking or running outdoors.

In the picture

  1. The map: paths, trees, and a printed course to follow.
  2. The thumb compass: its needle points to north.
  3. The control flag: a white-and-orange marker at a point on the course.
  4. The purple line: the route from the triangle through the control circles to the double circle.

Examples

  • At a school sports day, you check the map before running to the next flag.
