Baby Teeth and Permanent Teeth

Baby teeth loosen and fall out, and permanent teeth grow in their place. Brushing and healthy food help keep teeth free of cavities.

In the picture

  1. A small baby tooth: it loosens before falling out.
  2. A larger permanent tooth under the gum: it grows upward to replace the baby tooth.
  3. A toothbrush against a clean tooth: brushing removes plaque and food bits.
  4. A dark cavity in a tooth: a hole caused by tooth decay.

Examples

  • Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Eating an apple or carrot instead of sticky sweets.
