Rain is falling outside, a raincoat is still dripping on its hook, muddy boots stand by the door, paw prints cross the floor and the dog lies wet on its blanket. Nobody told you what happened, and yet you can work it out: someone has just come home from walking the dog in the rain. These little signs are called clues, and using them to figure out what happened is called deduction. Always look at several clues together and ask yourself whether they tell the same story.
